I would like to share the best healthcare experience I have ever had.
Recently, I was diagnosed with a nodule on the left lobe of my thyroid and was referred to Dr. Samuel Zuber at Surgical Associates of La Jolla.
From the moment I walked into his office, I was treated with respect, compassion, and exceptional care. My first visit with Dr. Zuber was the most educational medical consultation I have ever experienced. He thoroughly explained every aspect of my condition, from the best-case scenario to the worst-case scenario, while providing hope and confidence by discussing the treatment options available through him and his team.
I was especially impressed by the time he took to draw diagrams of the thyroid, the nodule, and the surrounding anatomy to help me fully understand my condition. He clearly explained my options in a way that was easy to understand and made me feel comfortable and informed.
Dr. Zuber supported me every step of the way. He referred me to an endocrinologist, arranged for a vocal cord evaluation, and recommended that I consult with an RFA specialist to ensure I had all the information necessary to make the best decision about whether surgery was the right option for me. At no point did I feel pressured. Instead, I felt that he genuinely cared about helping me make the decision that was best for my health.
I recently underwent surgery performed by Dr. Zuber, and it was a complete success. My postoperative experience exceeded all of my expectations. I expected to have significant pain, be unable to resume my normal activities for some time and have a noticeable scar. I had prepared myself for all of those possibilities. Instead, my recovery was remarkably smooth. I experienced virtually no pain, my voice remained unchanged, I returned to my normal activities much sooner than expected, and my incision is barely noticeable.
My one-week postoperative visit with Dr. Zuber was just as positive as every other interaction I had with him and his staff. Their professionalism, kindness, and dedication to patient care are truly exceptional.
I would never wish a health condition requiring surgery on anyone. However, if I or anyone I care about ever needed surgery within Dr. Samuel Zuber's specialty, I would have complete confidence in placing my care in his hands. I cannot recommend Dr. Samuel Zuber highly enough. He is an outstanding surgeon, an exceptional physician, and someone who truly cares about his patients.

I’m so grateful my endocrinologist referred me to Dr. Samuel Zuber. I needed a hyperparathyroidectomy and was extremely nervous, so I brought my husband to my appointment. From the start, Dr. Zuber reassured me with kindness and humor, even drawing a diagram to explain my calcium and PTH levels and how surgery would restore them. He eased my fears about scarring, promising a small incision that would heal well, and he was right. On surgery day, he comforted me, held my hand, and even reassured my worried husband with jokes that made us both laugh. The surgery went smoothly, my incision is healing beautifully, and at my follow-up, my husband insisted on coming because he also enjoys talking with Dr. Zuber. He truly has the perfect balance of professionalism, compassion, and humor. I highly recommend him and only wish he could be my OBGYN and primary doctor too. I was referred to Dr Zuber for a second opinion for hyperparathyroidism. In our FIRST meeting, he spent over an hour with me and my husband, calmly and thoroughly explaining what he thought, including pictures, an exam, and collaborative comments from a radiologist. Step by step he went on to discuss the possibilities of how a surgery could unfold. He arrived PREPARED! He answered all of our questions and patiently listened to our comments. Unbelievably, after over a year of being told by other doctors to "wait and see", we walked out of his office with a plan of action. I had surgery about a month later, and it was honestly the easiest surgery I have experienced. Everything went as he discussed, and I walked out of the hospital feeling better than I have in years. His after surgery care instructions were precise and helpful. He even responded to a question from the hospital nurses at 2am! He is deeply caring, highly capable, trustworthy, and the kind of doctor I want more of.
